Faced with the decrease in international tourist arrivals in 2020 due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, Chinese cities have focused on promoting domestic tourism. In addition to this, “patriotic tours” have also been offered to locals enabling them to visit key attractions. The results have been promising and are cause for optimism; an online article published on 23rd February 2021 by the Chinese news site, Ecns.cn, highlighted that the China Tourism Academy had estimated that 4.1 billion domestic tourist trips will be made in China in 2021. Additionally, domestic tourism this year is expected to add 511 billion U.S. dollars (3.3 trillion yuan) to the country’s economy.
Be it in cities such as Beijing, Shanghai or Xi An, China hotels including properties the likes of Grand Park Xian, continue to follow stringent health and hygiene protocols, offering ideal accommodation for domestic holidays. As travel restrictions ease-up this year, it will be hoped international tourist numbers will soon pick-up as well.
