May 10th, 2015 marked the five year anniversary of Chaaya Blu Trincomalee, a part of Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts and a property that has been involved in sustainable and eco-friendly operations. It has become one of the leading Trincomalee hotels in Sri Lanka’s East Coast, along with being a premier place from where travellers can set off on whale watching excursions.
In keeping with its sustainable practices and community development initiatives, Chaaya Blu Trincomalee employs local fishermen to operate the boats for whale watching tours and which have been fitted with silent and non polluting engines. Other projects undertaken by the resort during the past five years include the clean-up programme of Pigeon Island, helping in marine conservation by removing 250 starfish that were a threat to coral reefs and using proper methods of waste disposal. To reduce its carbon footprint, the resort has also engaged in water recycling which has led to there being no run-offs.
