In an online article published in February 2021 by CNN Travel, the Maldives was hailed as the “biggest 2020 international tourism success story”. This was due to the country’s achievement of getting the tourism industry back on track after the major setback caused by the global COVID-19 pandemic. Though many nations around the world had closed their borders, the Maldives was open for international visitors as early as July 2020 under stringent health protocols. In fact, in 2020, it welcomed 555,494 visitors which was higher than the previously projected 500,000.
Amongst the reasons for this success was the ease in which health measures could be implemented along with the added safety of the one island, one resort concept in the Maldives. Villas at private island resorts the likes of Grand Park Kodhipparu, Maldives provide travellers with ideal holiday abodes, while the enhanced hygiene and cleanliness standards followed, ensure a safe stay.
