David Livingstone Birthplace Museum Reopens – Mrs. Livingstone’s Role Also Highlighted

Following a £9.1 million refurbishment, the David Livingstone Birthplace Museum in Blantyre, Scotland, reopened on 28th July 2021. While it’s dedicated to the work and life of David Livingstone, a renowned missionary and explorer who journeyed to southern Africa, there were significant additions made following the refurbishment; this included putting the spotlight on Mary Moffat, his wife who served with him. Versed in several African languages, her importance and contributions cannot be underestimated; visitors now have a chance to learn more about Mrs. Livingstone as well as her close relationship with her husband.

Of course, this isn’t the only place to gain insights into this famed explorer with Zambia’s Livingstone Museum also worth visiting. Easy to reach from a Livingstone hotel, this museum has a gallery that covers aspects like his early life, missionary work and encounter with Mosi-oa-Tunya which he called “Victoria Falls”; the nearby falls which can be directly accessed from The Royal Livingstone Victoria Falls Zambia Hotel by Anantara enthrals visitors to this day.
