The first train trial of the Laos- China railway was held in August 2021. The construction project began in December 2016, and according to the latest news, all work will be completed by the end of 2021. This 37.4-billion-yuan project will indeed be one of the biggest investments of all time, facilitating trade and tourism benefits.
Foreigners who were used to enjoy a Mekong River cruise in Luang Prabang with popular service providers such as Mekong Kingdoms can now enjoy another unique experience through this novel initiative. The railway covers a length of 422.4 km and has 10 passenger stations in 10 different locations. In addition to them, 22 stations are available for freight operations. It is expected that this railway will offer greater convenience to travellers, while also contributing immensely to the socio-economic development of the local community.
