ForwardKeys, a leading provider of travel analytics, partnered with the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) to create a comprehensive report on Caribbean tourism. This report, presented at the Caribbean Travel Forum in Montego Bay, Jamaica, offered a thorough examination of the region’s tourism performance and identified key trends influencing its future. The findings revealed a 13% increase in international arrivals in the first half of 2024 compared to 2019, highlighting the Caribbean’s robust recovery. Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and Cancun emerged as top destinations, with Belize and Curaçao also showing notable growth due to improved connectivity and rising demand.
The report also delved into market segments such as business travel, family vacations, and premium class travel. Despite leisure travel outperforming business travel, regions like the U.S. Virgin Islands and the Cayman Islands saw significant growth in the latter. Family vacations increased, particularly in Curaçao and Aruba. The data emphasised the importance of high-yield visitors, with luxury travel consistently surpassing standard-class bookings. The report underscored the necessity of data-driven insights for optimising tourism strategies, including managing visa for Caribbean Islands. Industry leaders like InterCaribbean Airways were highlighted for their role in supporting this growth.
