In June 2024, Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) demonstrated remarkable growth, according to the latest air traffic statistics from the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK). HKIA managed 4.3 million passengers, a 29.1% increase from June 2023, while flight movements rose by 32.3% to 29,590. Passenger traffic saw steady recovery, notably in Southeast Asia, Mainland China, and Japan. Cargo throughput maintained double-digit year-on-year growth for the sixth consecutive month, with export cargo driving a 24.9% increase.
The first half of 2024 saw passenger volume up by 52.8% to 25.3 million, flight movements by 47.1% to 174,745, and cargo traffic by 17.9% to 2.4 million tonnes. On a 12-month rolling basis, passenger volume surged 125.9%, and flight movements grew 69.9%. On July 21, HKIA reached a post-pandemic milestone, recording over 171,000 passengers in a day. HKIA was named “Best Global Airport” for the ninth consecutive year at the 2024 AFLAS Awards. Naturally, a rise in incoming flight passengers is good news for the hospitality industry, as visitors pile up for Hong Kong hotel accommodation at properties like Cosmo Hotel Hong Kong.
