In the Jungles of Thailand, How Anantara Golden Triangle Is Reviving The Dying Mahout Culture – Conserving this part of Thailand

Elephants are regarded as spiritual animals, especially in Buddhist countries like Thailand. Not to mention the one who possesses the art of handling the elephant, the mahout, certainly take his duties seriously, as does his family as well. Living as a mahout isn’t easy in Thailand and there are a few captive elephants who are at risk of starving to death.

Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation (GTAEF) which was established in 2006 has taken steps to help these captive elephants and the mahout families that take care of them. Mahouts are trained at a young age to create a bond with their elephant friends. The two will be together throughout their lives. Anantara Golden Triangle is the main elephant camp in Thailand that contributes to the upkeep of these elephants and mahouts.
