India was one of the most significant tourist markets for Sri Lanka and travelling in between these two destinations was temporarily paused for some time due to the Covid 19 outbreak. But as situations came under control in both these destinations, travelling was allowed only to those who are fully vaccinated. With these reduced restrictions, thousands of Indians came to Sri Lanka by the end of 2021, and tourism officials believe that these numbers may further increase in 2022.
There were also some air ticket promotions in 2021 specifically targeting the Indian travellers, followed by Sri Lankan Airlines commencing many weekly flights to Indian destinations such as Chennai, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Cochin, Trivandrum, Madurai, New Delhi, and Hyderabad. Hotels near Colombo airport the likes of Heritance Negombo will be more than happy and ready to welcome guests from this neighbouring country after a while.
