The Esala Perahera held in the lovely heart of Kandy city will commence from 8th August 2016 to 18th August 2016. Known to be Asia’s biggest and most colourful pageant, it will feature a myriad of performances from jugglers, fire-breathers, musicians, dancers and decorated elephants. The Perahera is known to commemorate Buddha’s first teaching after attaining enlightenment, and is usually marked by the celebration of the Sacred Tooth Relic on the Island. The mightiest and biggest elephant is adorned in heavily decorated clothing and assigned the task of carrying this significant tooth relic upon its back as it parades through the streets of the city. Visitors looking for accommodation would find that in Sri Lanka, luxury resorts are plentiful, and Kandy is no exception as sophisticated hotels are combined with 200 years of rich history like the Earl’s Regency Kandy.
