For the third consecutive year, Kuramathi Island Resort Maldives received the much sought after TUI Umwelt Champion Award for its sustainable policies and practices. The award which is also referred to as the TUI Environmental Champion Award is annual accolade given to partner resorts and hotels of the TUI Group, one of the largest tourism, hospitality and leisure companies in the world. In order for a particular property to be eligible for the award it has to have achieved a Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) recognised, sustainability certification. An eco-friendly and eco-conscious resort Maldives has to offer, Kuramathi Island Resort features a special Eco Centre that has taken practical steps to assure that operations are sustainable, while minimising impact on the environment. Among the initiatives put into place include reef and island clean-ups, making guests aware of proper snorkelling practices so as to not harm marine and coral life, educating and training staff on recycling and conservation practices and hosting environmental events during the year.
