The early stages of 2023 report a steady increase in tourist interest and arrivals in the Southeastern country of Laos, where an estimated 1.6 million domestic and foreign tourists made their way across the country. Of this number, 1.1 million were proven to be foreign arrivals, indicating an increase of 204% in comparison to the same period of 2022. The largest numbers came from Thailand, Vietnam, and China, where the recent construction of train systems has become fairly popular and can be attributed to the recent commercial tourism success.
Many local businesses and vendors from the tourist hotspot of Vangviene are quite happy to receive the influx of tourists, stating that the town used to be very quiet until this recent influx. To this end, many tourist-related business brands like the Mekong Kingdom, a leading provider of an interesting Luang Prabang cruise facility, have enjoyed high amounts of business as tourists flock to see the town surrounded by rivers, temples, and scenic landscapes.
