Laos which initially granted entry to travellers from specific countries in January this year, subsequently fully reopened to all international tourists on 9th May 2022. This came as good news to the tourism industry, while the restrictions were reduced as well such as the need to submit to an RT-PCR test on arrival. However, those who are fully vaccinated must show proof of their vaccination that should have been administered a minimum of 14 days before embarkation. Meanwhile, travellers who are partially vaccinated or unvaccinated need to show a negative result of an antigen or PCR COVID-19 test taken within 48 hours of departure to Laos.
With the reopening of international borders, tourists can once more easily visit popular destinations in the country from Vientiane, the capital, to Luang Prabang, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and city; the latter also offers an ideal base from which to embark on a luxury Mekong River cruise offered by the likes of Mekong Kingdoms. On such adventures, you can look forward to exploring this part of Laos with its rich cultural and natural heritage as well as experiencing overnight journeys to northern Thailand.
