In a move that is expected to ease airport congestion when it comes to passengers, Phuket Airport has changed the procedure to the hold luggage checking process. Previously, travellers departing from the airport had to get their luggage screened before entering the premises. Put into effect from 1st April, the new process includes the use of an in-line screening system whereby passengers can go directly to the respective check-in counter, while their hold luggage is screened when placed on the belts to the aircraft carrier. If any suspicious items or objects come up in the screening process, the relevant passenger is notified. Offering everything from budget hotels to 5 star resorts in Phuket, the island has grown in popularity as a tourist destination with names like Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas amongst the plethora of choices available. With tourist numbers increasing, this move is hoped to make departures much smoother and less time consuming as well.
