Bringing together prominent personnel from 30 countries and institutes, Small Island Developing States (SIDS) gathered in Male, Maldives symbolising their aim to fortify global efforts to respond to climate change and hasten the implementation of renewable energy. The inaugural meeting of the Initiative for Renewable Island Energy (IRIE) with the partnership of Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) and International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), was hosted by the Maldivian Government.
With plenty of places to see in Maldives and many popular hospitality brands including Adaaran Prestige Vadoo, this island nation is famous for taking initiative in adopting renewable energy across the nation. Commenting on IRIE, Chair of Alliance of Small Island States and Energy and Environment Minister for the Maldives, Thoriq Ibrahim stated that SIDS feature some of the most pure energy plans with less omission. He further commented that the significant involvement of Maldives has resulted in the international effort of addressing the adverse climate changes in the world.
