Island paradise continues to thrive as visitor numbers rise and luxury experiences lead the way
The Maldives began September on a high note, welcoming over 5,000 tourists on the first day of the month, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Environment. Between January and September 2025, total visitor arrivals reached 1.49 million, marking a 9.4% increase compared to the same period last year.
China remains the leading source market, followed by Russia and the United Kingdom. The data also shows that most travellers continue to favour the country’s luxury resorts, highlighting the Maldives’ strong position as a premier travel destination.
Renowned properties such as Coco Bodu Hithi exemplify the island’s blend of comfort and sophistication, while vibrant Maldives bar and restaurant scenes add to the allure. With steady growth and renewed global interest, the Maldives tourism sector is poised to maintain its momentum through the year’s end.
