Tourism in the Maldives continues to flourish in 2025, with over 1.4 million visitors recorded between January and mid-August, marking a 9.1 per cent increase compared to 2024. The Ministry of Tourism revealed that resorts remain the preferred choice for global travellers, with more than one million tourists, 73.4 per cent of arrivals, opting for luxury island stays, reflecting the enduring appeal of pristine beaches and exclusive experiences.
Guesthouses accounted for 21.9 per cent of stays, while hotels, liveaboards, and other facilities made up smaller proportions. August arrivals alone rose by 5.2 per cent year-on-year, with an average of 6,737 visitors daily. China remains the top source market, contributing 15.4 per cent of arrivals, followed by Russia and the United Kingdom. Iconic resorts such as Coco Bodu Hithi continue to attract honeymooners, with the Maldives cementing its reputation as a premier Maldives couples resort destination. The nation also welcomed its one-millionth visitor on June 7, commemorating the milestone with a symbolic tree-planting ceremony.
