Blending luxury, sustainability, and community for a greener tomorrow
The Maldives has announced plans to transform its tourism landscape through the creation of large-scale Sustainable Townships — integrated eco-friendly developments designed to combine tourism, living, and innovation. These communities will feature residential areas, healthcare, education, and renewable energy systems, paving the way for long-term sustainability beyond traditional resort models.
Under amendments to the SEZ Act, investors will receive tax incentives for projects that meet strict environmental and social criteria. The initiative aligns with the nation’s Vision 2040 strategy, which prioritises economic diversification and environmental resilience.
By introducing townships that merge hospitality with community living, Maldives Beach Resorts such as the well-known Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu may soon be complemented by developments offering wellness tourism, extended stays, and eco-conscious lifestyles — positioning the Maldives as a global leader in sustainable island living
