Maldivian, the national carrier of the Maldives, is gearing up to launch wide-body aircraft operations, enabling nonstop direct flights to popular tourist destinations. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has approved this strategic decision following discussions held during a recent Cabinet meeting based on a proposal presented by the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation.
The move comes as a response to the fact that 48% of tourists currently reach the Maldives through connecting flights, primarily due to the absence of direct flights from major visitor countries. European tourists, in particular, rely on connecting Middle Eastern flights. With the new initiative, Maldivian aims to establish nonstop direct flights to key regions in China, Europe, and South Africa, prioritizing China as the primary focus and providing easier access to any luxury resort in the Maldives such as the NH Collection Maldives.
