Known as the ‘Red City’, the ancient Moroccan city of Marrakech was recently highlighted as one of the best cities to enjoy walks. This came to light on 19th June 2023 on The New York Times website as it published, “In 7 Great Cities, 7 Great Walks”. The list was curated after asking writers in cities around the globe to suggest routes which let travellers experience the true essence of each destination. Amongst these was Marrakech, which was featured for offering “A Spider Web of Passageways” to explore.
A place in the city mentioned from which to set off on such walks was Jemaa El Fna located in the historical neighbourhood called the medina; here, in an open-air market setting and a labyrinth of passageways to wander around, one will find various performers and musicians as well as souvenir shops, restaurants and more. For those planning to experience this area in Marrakech, hotel deals can be found at properties in the heart of the medina such as Riad Elegancia from where one can embark on captivating adventures.
