Martime Developments in Sri Lanka: New Ports, Shipping, and Southern Development Secretary

A new beginning!

On the 26th of December, for the first time in the history, an industry professional has been appointed as the secretary for New Ports, Shipping, and Southern Development in Sri Lanka by the president his excellency Mr Maithripala Sirisena . The new secretary is Dr. Parakrama Dissanayake who was serving as the chairman of Hambantota International Ports Services Ltd and the chairperson of the Sri Lanka Ports authority. He has also been the CEO and the chairman of Aitken Spence Maritime and Transport Logistics sectors. He also holds several industry specific academic as well as professional qualifications from several internationally recognized bodies. Educational institutes the likes of CINEC which is a body that provides maritime and marine engineering courses in Sri Lanka along with Many economists and intellectuals in the country, see this as a new and welcoming change that will opens the portal for a country which will be led by intellectuals.
