In a report published in June, it was brought to light that the Maldives experienced an 11% growth in tourist arrivals in May when compared to last year. One of the significant factors was that the leading market for tourism in the country during this time was China followed by Italy. The tourist industry is a major contributor to the economy of the Maldives. Bungalow and overwater villa options continue to attract tourists with private island resorts the likes of Anantara Veli Maldives Resort being among the many available options.
According to Ali Waheed, the Maldivian Minister of Tourism, the country has continued to show growth in terms of tourist arrivals following the new government coming into office last year. As such, the government hopes to maintain this upward trend in the coming months as well.
