Melaka’s tourism flourishes, numbers surging

The surge in utility bills by over 35% at hotels across Melaka during the first quarter of this year indicates a notable increase in tourist arrivals, coinciding with Visit Melaka Year 2024 (VMY2024). Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh highlighted that alongside the rise in utility bills, there was also a noticeable increase in the number of vehicles entering the state’s primary entry points, reflecting the uptick in tourism activity. He attributed this growth in tourist arrivals partly to the government’s decision to grant a 30-day visa-free entry for citizens of China and India starting December 1 last year.

Ab Rauf emphasized the significance of China’s support for Melaka’s tourism industry, exemplified by the involvement of cultural teams from Guangxi province during the VMY2024 launch. This collaboration signifies the strong bilateral relations between Melaka and China, particularly as Malaysia and China commemorate the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties this year. With VMY2024 ongoing from January 1 to December 31 under the theme “Mana Lagi? Melaka Ler!” (Where Else But Melaka?), the Melaka government aims to establish the state as the primary and preferred tourist destination for the year. There are many best resorts in Melaka such as the famous PARKROYAL A’Famosa Melaka Resort for visitors to try on their visits
