Mirissa Whale Watching Season Will Begin in November – In Search of Gentle Giants of the Sea

November will herald the beginning of the whale watching season in the small fishing town known as Mirissa that lies tucked away along the southern coast of Sri Lanka. The area has become a popular hotspot for whale and dolphin watching, since the waters around its shores are home to these marine mammals which are not always easy to spot. Travellers planning to embark on such excursions during the whale watching season which initially runs from November to April can consider staying at properties such as CASA Colombo Collection, Mirissa which offer easy access to the harbour. Among the species that one has a chance of spotting include Fin Whales, Sperm Whales and Blue Whales, considered the largest animal in the world. The period between December and March is generally considered the best time for whale watching since seas are relatively calmer offering better visibility of whale ‘spouts’ and ‘blows’ as well.
