Myanmar Reopens its Borders Following a 2-Year Halt

The month of April reported news to rejoice for Myanmar as the country finally opened its borders for international travellers following a 2-year shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On the 17th of April 2022, tourists arriving at a Yangon hotel was a sight for sore eyes. Following the COVID-19 pandemic and political unrest in the country, resorts like Chatrium Hotel Royal Lake Yangon faced major drawbacks in income. The military junta finally announced that the country was open for international tourists under several conditions.

Some of these conditions require tourists to undergo a PCR test on arrival at the airport as well as a quarantine period of one week in Yangon, while entry is limited to fully vaccinated individuals. However, travel firms and agents advise tourists to travel to Myanmar at their own risk.
