Myanmar’s tourism sector has witnessed a remarkable resurgence during the financial year 2022-23, as the nation experiences a substantial influx of Chinese tourists. The Ministry of Hotels and Tourism has reported notable figures indicating this positive trend. Following the resumption of international commercial flights to Myanmar in April of the previous year, the country observed a staggering 187 per cent surge in international tourist arrivals, as illustrated by the ministry’s statistical data.
Notably, Myanmar’s Ministry of Hotels and Tourism took proactive measures to enhance the experience of Chinese tourists, conducting a foundational Chinese-speaking course in Nay Pyi Taw in August of the preceding year. U Hla Myint, the deputy permanent secretary of the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism, emphasized the optimistic outlook for tourism in Myanmar, citing the safety and accessibility of popular destinations like Ngapali and Yangon. Many a 5 star hotel in Yangon the likes of Pan Pacific Yangon are also benefiting from this. He further highlighted Myanmar’s intention to boost visibility and attract more visitors through participation in international tourism fairs.
