Sri Lanka is set to launch a new tourism mobile app in March aimed at protecting foreign tourists. The app, which will be available in seven languages, will register all three-wheelers and display a bar code for tourists to scan. The app will also include details of tourist attractions such as Ballys Casino and hotels, as well as a payment system for the convenience of foreign visitors. The Police will monitor the app and take action in the event of any incident. The move follows repeated incidents of harassment of three-wheeler drivers in certain tourist areas.
In addition to the new app, Sri Lanka’s Tourism Minister, Harin Fernando, announced plans for several international events in Colombo to be held in the country to promote tourism. The minister said that the app will be launched during the first week of March and will involve several stakeholders in the local tourism industry. The new app is expected to provide greater safety and convenience for foreign tourists while also promoting Sri Lanka’s attractions and boosting the country’s tourism industry.
