This month, Sri Lanka hosted its State Vesak Festival in the highland town of Nuwara Eliya. Vesak is an important religious event in this mostly Buddhist country, commemorating the birth, enlightenment, and death of Gautama Buddha. Celebrating this significant occasion, the festival ran from 10th to 16th May 2025, with the main Vesak day falling on 12th May, marked by a full moon. This year’s event was held under the theme “To Be Associated with Noble Friends” and was open to visitors of all faiths, ethnicities and nationalities, helping to foster unity and harmony in this multicultural nation.

As part of the festival, programmes were held at the Nuwara Eliya Town Hall and the International Buddhist Centre within easy reach of accommodation providers like Araliya Green Hills. Such properties make an ideal choice for travellers in search of Nuwaraeliya 4-star hotels to not only enjoy cultural events but also the destination’s natural beauty, colonial heritage and tea plantations amidst mist-shrouded mountains.
