The lovely town of Nuwara Eliya inherits a history that stretches back to colonial times in Sri Lanka. The credit for discovering the area goes to John Davy, a British officer who came to the area as long ago as 1819. However, it was the explorer Samuel Baker, also credited for exploring the Nile and discovering Lake Albert in Africa, who founded the city decades later.
During the month of April, many international and local tourists visit Nuwara Eliya to enjoy the festive season. Many events including summer fair carnival, motorsports, pro-cart race, art exhibitions, snooker tournament, hill climb race, and more are being held during April.
