Oman’s tourism industry was bruised by the pandemic; however, in December 2021, Oman’s number of tourist receipts saw an increase of 384%. Hotels in Muscat are likely to have received a deluge of tourists, of approximately around 1.2 million guests, an outstanding increase compared to 2020.
Most tourists who stayed at hotels like Avani Muscat Hotel were from GCC countries, but there were tourists from India, Yemen, Pakistan, and Egypt as well; the hotel sector revenue was calculated to be 102 million Omani riyals. In the month of December, the country was visited by 180,000 visitors, which is a massive increase compared to the 37,000 tourists that visited the country in December 2020. In turn, hotel occupancy went from 26.7% in December 2020 to 47.5% in December 2021.
