Thailand’s decision to reopen borders once more to its foreign visitors from 1st February 2022 was made with a vision to recover economic growth that took a hit with the pandemic. The nation has realised that to once again attract tourists, certain restrictions will need to be lowered considering the current situation. Since new COVID-19 cases have eased, it has resumed its Test & Go entry programme that gives fully vaccinated international tourists a chance to enter the country without quarantine restrictions though with required RT-PCR testing in place.
Phuket and Koh Samui resorts were among the first in Thailand to welcome visitors again after the resumption of international travel in 2022 under the ‘Sandbox’ system. Once here, fully vaccinated tourists can reside in SHA Extra+ certified accommodation providers like Anantara Bophut Koh Samui Resort with limited restrictions. As reported on the Bloomberg news website in January this year, the Government of Thailand expects to reduce fiscal support moving forward and stand on its own two feet once again.
