Tourists who want to visit parts of the heavily guarded border between North and South Korea can now do so in a rather unique manner; from the 21st of April this year, South Korea opened 11 hiking trails on its side of the Demilitarised Zone (DMZ) giving travellers a chance to explore some of the key areas along the border. According to The Korea Times news website, these trails are to be found in 10 cities; these include Paju, Ganghwa, Hwacheon, Goseong (which has two trails) and Goyang, the latter of which can be reached on excursions by those staying at a Myeongdong hotel. Seoul sightseeing adventures from properties like Travelodge Myeongdong Euljiro thus now provide a whole new perspective of the country.

Visitors heading along these trails will be accompanied by experienced guides and will get a chance to learn more about the history, ecology, and culture of the area. It should be noted that not all areas can be walked along with most sections accessible by vehicle for safety reasons as well as to protect the local wildlife. However, there will be special trails to explore by foot which will provide a truly immersive excursion.
