These rarely seen mammals can be observed in all their glory in the month of March when they come together in the Northwestern ocean waters of Sri Lanka. These animals are one of the most active predators, yet their population is quite small. These creatures have been on planet earth for over 25 million years and continue to keep their species alive.
These species function much like submarines. During meal times, they shut down all their organs, except the heart and brain and dive into the deepest depths of the ocean to feed on their favourite snack which happens to be squids. Another species, blue whales, can be found in Mirissa in the Southern coast of Sri Lanka. They too are magnificent creatures indeed. Tourists who are accommodated in star class hotels in Mirissa Sri Lanka in places like Mandara Resort Mirissa have the opportunity to go whale watching.
