Sri Lanka’s Embassy in Yangon has further strengthened cooperation between Sri Lanka and Myanmar in the gem, jewellery and tourism sectors following a business development visit by L.A.D. Palitha, a gemologist and chief executive fficer of the Nojili Group of Companies. Facilitated with the support of the Embassy, the visit provided Palitha with an opportunity to gain insights into Myanmar’s gemstone trade and explore potential avenues for future partnerships between the two countries. As part of the visit, he also headed to Chatrium Hotel Royal Lake Yangon, one of the venues hosting the UMTA Travel Fair 2026, a major tourism showcase organised by the Union of Myanmar Travel Association and the Yangon Regional Government.
During the event, Palitha met with UMTA leadership, as well as tourism operators and investors, to discuss opportunities in ecotourism, cultural tourism, and heritage travel. The discussions also explored how promotional initiatives, such as a Yangon luxury hotel offer, could support joint marketing efforts and foster greater visitor exchange between the two countries. The visit was considered a positive step towards strengthening economic cooperation between Sri Lanka and Myanmar.
