Sri Lanka’s tourism earnings surged to over 1.5 billion U.S. dollars in the first half of 2024, marking a 77.9% increase year-on-year, according to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. Tourist arrivals also rose by 61.7%, reaching 1.01 million.
In June alone, tourism brought in 113.4 million dollars, compared to 100.3 million dollars in June 2023. Workers’ remittances, another key revenue source, totalled 3.14 billion dollars for the first six months of 2024, up from 2.82 billion dollars last year, with June contributing 519.6 million dollars. Notably, luxury hotels in Sri Lanka such as the Anantara Kalutara Resort have benefited from this tourism boom, enhancing the country’s appeal as a top destination.
