Sri Lanka Seeks to Boost Tourism with India’s Help – The Focus on A Key Source Market
India continues to be a key source market for its neighbouring nation, Sri Lanka, which is looking to get its help to boost its tourism sector. As highlighted on The New Indian Express news website on 8th November 2022, at the time, close to 21% of overall tourist arrivals this year to this island nation were from India. To bolster arrivals further, the Sri Lankan Convention Bureau (SLCB) also sent a delegation to India to promote the destination through road shows in Delhi, Hyderabad, and Mumbai.
The website also quoted Thisum Jayasurya, the chairman of the SLCB, who revealed that India is a priority market for Sri Lanka; he further added that the country was focusing on attracting three types of tourists namely those in search of entertainment, family holidays and visits to Ramayana sites. With its easy entry and proximity, Sri Lanka is an ideal choice for Indian travellers who can enjoy the best of this country including its famed south coast at towns like Bentota; hotels beside the beach here such as Cinnamon Bey Beruwala make an ideal accommodation choice and offer safe stays as well.
