Easier entry, more adventures – Sri Lanka welcomes the world
Sri Lanka has opened its doors wider to international travellers by offering visa-free entry to citizens of 40 countries, including the UK, the USA, India, and the UAE. Announced by Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath on July 25, 2025, this move comes after the Cabinet approved expanding the programme from its original list of seven nations.
Since March 2023, citizens of select countries have enjoyed complimentary 30-day tourist visas. The updated scheme continues this initiative, requiring travellers to obtain an electronic travel authorisation but removing visa fees entirely.
Tourists can explore the island efficiently via domestic flights in Sri Lanka, with well-known airlines like Cinnamon Air providing convenient options to key destinations. Officials anticipate that while the policy may temporarily reduce visa revenue, the influx of visitors will significantly boost the tourism sector and wider economy.
With its pristine beaches, cultural landmarks, and seamless connectivity, Sri Lanka is positioning itself as a top-choice travel destination.
