Sustainability meets adventure in Sri Lanka’s wildlife tourism journey

Sri Lanka has reinforced its reputation as a premier wildlife destination with its participation at the Global Bird Fair 2025 in Rutland, UK. The event offered a platform to highlight the island’s diverse ecosystems, from rainforest interiors and coastal wetlands to habitats for over 500 bird species.

The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau showcased new Mini-Wildlife Guides, covering mammals, birds, and butterflies, which drew strong interest from international visitors. Accredited destination management companies, including Delmege Tours, continue to engage in promoting tailored wildlife experiences.

Beyond birding, the island is increasingly attracting travellers for unique encounters such as dolphin and whale watching in Sri Lanka, along with safaris across Yala and Udawalawe. With more than half of inbound tourists now joining wildlife-focused activities, the sector continues to grow in both participation and revenue.
