Sri Lanka Strengthens Tourism Push in China with High-Level Industry Briefing in Beijing

Expanding horizons through stronger partnerships, connectivity, and destination storytelling

Sri Lanka has intensified its tourism outreach in China with a high-level briefing and networking reception held in Beijing on 8 June 2026, bringing together more than 120 representatives from travel trade, media, aviation, investment, and MICE sectors.

Key participants included major Chinese travel companies, airlines, and media organisations, alongside SriLankan Airlines and Beijing Capital Airlines. The event marked renewed direct engagement between Sri Lanka and China’s tourism industry following a gap, ahead of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027.

Officials highlighted centuries-old Silk Route ties, Sri Lanka’s tourism recovery, visa-free access expansion, and improved connectivity, including a seven-hour Beijing–Colombo route. They also noted the potential to grow Chinese arrivals significantly, positioning Sri Lanka alongside regional destinations and promoting multi-country travel experiences.

Hospitality showcases such as Cinnamon Lodge Habarana and other preferred Habarana hotel offerings were referenced within Sri Lanka’s tourism portfolio discussions and promotional initiatives.
