During his visit to the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority on the 24th of March 2022, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa stated that Sri Lanka should brace itself to become the Asian destination of the tourists, occupying major resorts like the Heritance Hotels. Following a successful number of 260,000 tourists to the country that resided at luxury resorts In Sri Lanka as well as in boutique hotels in the first quarter of 2022, the expectation of the total number of arrivals by the end of the year to the country was a staggering number of 1.3 million tourists.
The President further explained that the tourism industry of the country is expected to raise USD 10 billion, annually and that necessary steps are to be taken in order to provide trainings, practically and theoretically that will expand the tourism sector of Sri Lanka.
