Sri Lanka’s tourism industry has boomed significantly ever since the prolonged civil war concluded, and the island nation has been garnering some serious attention where her culinary culture is concerned. The interest in the island’s restaurants is due to the opening of many establishments owned or part-owned by celebrities such as Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene, who opened Ministry of Crab, and Jaqueline Fernandez, who has part-ownership of Kaema Sutra. Darshan Munidasa, Sri Lanka’s most famous chef, is involved with both these restaurants, as well as Nihonbashi, which has been ranked among Asia’s top-50 restaurants.

Due to this rise in popularity, many hotels are opening up in Sri Lanka, such as the upcoming One Galle Face, which would feature many restaurants, in addition to many a luxury apartment for sale in Colombo as well. Not only is Sri Lanka’s culinary scene growing in recognition, but also in size.
