The Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) held its 67th Convention in Colombo, Sri Lanka, after an 18-year hiatus. With over 700 participants primarily from India, the convention aimed to promote a regional tourism network and strengthen the historical connection between the two countries. Sri Lanka Tourism actively worked to attract Indian tourists to resorts in Sri Lanka, as India remained the leading market, and the number of Indian tourist arrivals was expected to double by 2023. The convention, themed “Futuristic Focus on Transcending Borders,” showcased Sri Lanka as a safe and welcoming destination with many beautiful and comfortable places of accommodation, such as those offered by Aitken Spence Hotels. The event was inaugurated by Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, providing a platform for networking and knowledge sharing among delegates from various countries.
Prime Minister Gunawardena participated on July 7th, and a special celebration and dinner were hosted at the Prime Minister’s Residence, Temple Trees. The convention sought to explore the evolving landscape of the tourism industry, emphasizing the embrace of new adventures and destinations. With the support of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, the Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators, and Sri Lankan Airlines, the TAAI Convention was poised to showcase Sri Lanka’s attractions, cultural value, and travel opportunities to enhance the tourism partnership between the two nations.
