Sri Lanka Tourism App to Launch This Year – Initiative to Enhance Visitor Experiences

The eagerly anticipated Sri Lanka Tourism app is said to be in the final stages of development and is expected to launch in 2024 providing travellers with a range of convenient features. While the development of the app was first approved by the Sri Lankan cabinet in 2019, its progress was stalled due to various challenges including the subsequent onset of the global pandemic. However, as reported on the Ada Derana news website on 16th January 2024, the initiative has been reactivated; this was confirmed by the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, Priyantha Fernando, who further revealed that technical and management evaluation committees are being formed to finalise the app’s content and scope. It could launch as early as March 2024 or the second quarter of this year.

The Sri Lanka Tourism app by the Malaysian developer that was initially tasked with its creation is expected to provide tourists with useful information on key sites of interest as well as service providers and registered establishments. It will also have options to process visa applications, buy tickets to various attractions and rate one’s experiences. In Sri Lanka, must visit places can be found throughout the island and tourists wanting to visit these sites as well as gain authentic local insights can enlist the services of trusted tour companies; these include the likes of Ceylon Tours which offers specialised travel consultants and tailor-made holiday experiences that integrate responsible and sustainable tourism.
