Sri Lanka Updates Tourist Entry Guidelines – Encouraging More Travel to the Island

Having reopened its international borders for tourists last year, Sri Lanka has been updating its entry requirements and guidelines in the past few months. In February this year, the country introduced on-arrival Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) facilities and a 12 USD mandatory COVID-19 insurance (https://portal.pionline.lk/covidinsurance/) for tourists with a one-month coverage of 75,000 USD. The following month, on 1st March 2022, it was announced that fully vaccinated travellers would be exempted from a pre-departure rapid antigen or PCR test. In an additional development, the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority has stated that one-year multiple-entry tourist visas will be introduced as well.

Such measures are drawing more travellers to the island which is looking to get tourism back on track. At present, fully vaccinated travellers can enjoy quarantine-free entry with no on-arrival testing needed. They can stay at “Safe & Secure” certified boutique villas Sri Lanka has to offer including those of well-known hospitality brands like Reveal the Collection at key destinations such as Mirissa and Nuwara Eliya.
