Sri Lanka ups tourist arrival target to three million this year – The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau launches “Island Escapes”

The Tourism Ministry and the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau alongside other key tourism stakeholders kicked off the “Island Escapes” promotional campaign on the 15th of September. The promotional campaign aims to support an increase in tourist arrivals to the island from 2.5 million to 3 million by the end of 2018. In Sri Lanka, beach resorts the likes of The Blue Water Hotel and Spa are expected to participate in this campaign which will also facilitate the targeted tourist arrivals for 2019.

The Honourable Minister John Amaratunge shared his sentiments on the promotional campaign at the launch event. Also speaking at the event Managing Director of the Sri Lankan Tourism Promotion Bureau, Southeast Balasubramanian indicated that Sri Lanka has experienced an offseason for 50% of this year which is why a promotional strategy such as the “Island Escapes” will be crucial to reach the 2020 tourism strategy in the country.
