From heritage to coastlines — Sri Lanka’s tourism revival is rewriting its global story

The tourism industry of Sri Lanka is making a strong comeback in 2025, with over 1.5 million international visitors recorded by mid-August, according to the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA). This surge aligns with the government’s “Year of Tourism Revival” initiative, which aims to strengthen infrastructure, attract diverse markets, and double tourism revenue.

Key destinations such as Colombo, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle, Trincomalee, and Anuradhapura continue to lead the revival, drawing travellers for their cultural heritage, natural beauty, and coastal charm. India remains the largest source market, followed by the UK and Russia, with notable growth also seen from Germany, France, Australia, and China.

With Sri Lanka on track to surpass 2 million arrivals by year-end, the nation’s hospitality sector is in focus. Brands such as Araliya Hotels & Resorts, along with other recognised names among the best hotels in Sri Lanka, are set to play a key role in delivering world-class visitor experiences.
