Experience culture, light, and tradition at Sri Lanka’s Diwali festivities

Sri Lanka came alive with the vibrant celebrations of Diwali, the Festival of Lights, as Hindu communities across the island marked the occasion with devotion and joy. Temples were adorned with intricate decorations, homes glowed with oil lamps, and streets echoed with festive cheer.

Devotees visited renowned temples, including the Nallur Kandaswamy Temple in Jaffna and Koneswaram Temple in Trincomalee, performing poojas and rituals for prosperity and well-being. Traditional music and dance performances showcased Tamil heritage, while families shared festive treats like laddu, murukku, and gulab jamun.

Travellers exploring the festivities also discovered unique local experiences in towns like Kataragama, with Mandara Rosen Kataragama highlighted among recommended spots for relaxation. Several travellers opted for convenient accommodation in Kataragama, making it easy to experience both cultural rituals and local hospitality.
