Thailand Looks to Boost Domestic Tourism – A Possibility for Higher Travel Subsidies in 2025

Thailand is looking to enhance its domestic tourism with plans to offer higher travel subsidies this year including up to 50% discounts. This was put in the spotlight on The Nation news website on 22nd October 2024 which revealed that this proposal was part of the next chapter for the We Travel Together (“Rao Thiew Duay Kan”) subsidy. At the time, Sorawong Thienthong, the Thai Tourism and Sports Minister, said he would be engaging in discussions with Julapun Amornvivat, the Deputy Finance Minister, about how the funds would be sourced to offer such subsidies.

Domestic travellers played a key part in boosting local tourism following the pandemic and are still seen as vital especially during the off-season when there are typically fewer arrivals from abroad. When it comes to accommodation options for such getaways, resorts in Patong, Phuket remain popular choices for both Thai and international tourists. Such properties like Dinso Resort & Villas Phuket which offer a jungle sanctuary within easy reach of the beach, can no doubt look to welcome more local and foreign visitors this year.
