Priyantha Fernando, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, has announced the revival of an initiative to develop a comprehensive tourism app for Sri Lanka. To facilitate this endeavour, technical evaluation committees and management are being established to finalize the app’s scope and content.
The project will be entrusted to the same Malaysian developer previously engaged in the initiative. However, the app’s launch is contingent upon the progress of necessary clearances and technical requirements. Should development commence from scratch, the release may extend into the second quarter of 2024. Conversely, if all aspects proceed smoothly, tourists could potentially access this digital tool as early as March 2024.
The app provides users with access to information on visas, tickets, registered establishments and attractions. For instance, tourists staying at Heritance Negombo can now search for events in Negombo via the app. They can also rate their experience which in turn helps the country to come up with more tourist-centric attractions.
