The end of 2018 not only saw a new government coming into power in the Maldives, but positive steps being taken to improve the tourism industry as well. As part of the new government’s pledges which it plans to follow through on during the first 100 days in office, is a minimum threefold increase of the tourism ministry’s marketing budget. While Maldives resort options the likes of Maafushivaru Maldives, as well as guesthouse accommodation, provide visitors with a varied choice, much more needs to be done be it promoting the country or increasing bed capacity.
Apart from the proposed increase in the marketing budget for tourism, the country’s new ruler, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih also proposed holding a guesthouse symposium. Additionally, as part of the changes taking place with the new administration, Ali Waheed, a former parliamentarian was appointed the Minister of Tourism.
